Compare / Supabase

Supabase vs Lonca

Supabase is an open-source Postgres platform with auth, storage, realtime and edge functions. It is a strong base for building your own game systems in SQL. Lonca is a game backend where those systems already exist, so your team configures events instead of writing them.

Book a 20-minute early access call

Pick Supabase when

Your team is comfortable with SQL and wants an open-source, self-hostable Postgres backend to build its own game systems on.

Pick Lonca when

You'd rather not build leaderboards, events, teams and an economy yourself, and want your product team to launch live ops, on Lonca Cloud or self-hosted.

At a glance

How Supabase and Lonca differ before you look at a single feature.

What it is

Supabase

An open-source Postgres development platform. Not specific to games.

Lonca

An open-source game backend for casual and mobile games, with live ops built in.

How live ops are built

Supabase

Edit rows in the table editor. Schedules, rewards and targeting are written in SQL or edge functions.

Lonca

Configured in the console from 18 event templates, with a flow builder, versions, and dev and staging environments to test in. No server code.

Engine SDKs

Supabase

Official JavaScript, Flutter, Swift and Python. Unity (C#) and Godot clients are community-maintained.

Lonca

Unity, Godot and web, generated from one API description.

Custom server logic

Supabase

Postgres functions, triggers and row-level security, plus TypeScript edge functions.

Lonca

Rarely needed. Flows cover the logic between events; webhooks reach your own server when you need more.

Hosting

Supabase

Managed cloud, or self-hosted with Docker.

Lonca

Lonca Cloud, run for you on shared infrastructure with each game's data, limits and keys kept apart. Or self-host on your own infrastructure.

Source code

Supabase

Open source (Apache 2.0).

Lonca

Open-source core. Lonca Cloud is the managed edition.

Pricing

Supabase

Free plan, then Pro from $25 a month per organization plus compute and usage.

Lonca

Self-hosting has no license fee. Lonca Cloud targets $0.05 per daily active player per month; early access pricing is agreed with each studio.

Feature by feature

What each one gives a casual or mobile game out of the box. The Lonca column is what early access is designed to include; Lonca is not generally available yet.

Where Supabase is stronger

  • Open source and portable

Apache 2.0 and self-hostable, so you can leave the managed service whenever you want.

  • Full SQL

Relational modelling and Postgres functions suit rankings, guilds and economies.

  • Predictable plans

A free plan and published tiers with included usage.

  • Anonymous auth and realtime

Guest sign-in that links to a full account later, and broadcast and presence channels.

Where Lonca is different

  • Nothing to build first

Leaderboards with seasons, 18 event types, teams, chat, inbox, wallet and promo codes exist in Lonca. On Supabase each is a schema, functions and tests your team writes.

  • Live ops without SQL

A product manager launches an event from a template. On Supabase every schedule, reward and audience rule is SQL or a function.

  • Game-specific guarantees

Exactly-once reward claims, a wallet that never goes negative, rooms that fill by level with bots.

  • Game engine SDKs

Lonca's Unity, Godot and web SDKs are generated and supported by Lonca, with retries and token refresh built in.

Moving from Supabase

Supabase games keep their game systems in their own Postgres tables. Accounts and saves move with the player, and tables that drive events become Lonca templates. We'll tell you which custom tables have no Lonca equivalent.

  1. 1

    Tell us what you run

Your events, leaderboards, economy and the server code behind them. A 20-minute call is enough to map it.

  2. 2

    Map it to Lonca

We match each event to a template and each system to its Lonca module, and list honestly what would not move.

  3. 3

    Try it in staging

Early access studios get dev and staging environments with test players and a time offset, so an event can be checked before any player sees it.

Questions studios ask

Is Lonca a Supabase alternative for games?

For the game backend, yes. Supabase gives you a database to build on; Lonca gives you leaderboards, events, teams, inbox, wallet and promo codes already built. If you want a general Postgres backend for other parts of your product, Supabase is still a good fit.

Is Lonca open source like Supabase?

Yes. Lonca's core is open source and self-hostable, like Supabase. The difference is what you get: Supabase gives you a database to build game systems on, while Lonca gives you the game systems themselves.

Does Lonca have an official Godot SDK?

Yes. Lonca's Godot SDK is generated from the same API description as the Unity and web SDKs.

Can Lonca call my own server?

Yes. Event flows can call webhooks on your server, and your server can call Lonca with a server key.

Running on Supabase today?
